John William Guiton, 50, of Oceano, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2004.
There will be a time of visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel.
John was born Sept. 22, 1954, in San Luis Obispo. He attended local schools and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1972.
He moved to Maui, Hawaii, in 1972 and lived there until 1980, when his girlfriend, Sheree Yamamoto, was injured in an automobile accident. They moved back to the Los Angeles area for her medical treatment. John was completely devoted to her and to her recovery and spent the last 25 years caring for her.
While living in Lomita with Sheree's family John went to work for Western Airlines and then Delta Airlines, where he was a senior customer service representative. Upon the death of his father, Harold Guiton, in 2001, he took an early retirement from Delta and moved with Sheree to Oceano to be with his family.
John loved the outdoors and spent the last three years working hard at the family home planting gardens and redwood trees, and was in the process of planting an orchard. He was a talented craftsman in woodworking and made many beautiful things for his family and friends. He volunteered at the Oceano Depot and was dedicated to helping with it's restoration. John loved the ocean and was an avid surfer and surf fisherman, as well as an avid golfer. John and Sheree loved to travel and made trips to Maui to visit with old friends. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with the Yamamoto family.
Family and friends who survive him will always remember his unconditional love, compassion,
the many acts of kindness he showed to everyone he knew and most of all, his great big heart.
John is survived by the love of his life and wife, Sheree; mother, Glenda Guiton of Oceano; mother-in-law, June Yamamoto of Lomita; sisters and brothers, Jim and Linda Guiton of Arroyo Grande, Larry and Linda Austin of Oceano, and Laurie Guiton of Orcutt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Colleen Suminaga and their children, Tracy and Jay, Robin Yamamoto of Lomita, and Theo Cain of Santa Maria; and aunts and uncles, Ron and Marie Newlander, Betty Hensley, Bob and Lois Hensley, and Dan and Carolyn Bowdish; nieces and nephews, James Guiton and family of Stockton, Chad Guiton of Arroyo Grande, and Courtney, Maegan, Caitlin and Sarah of Orcutt; and many cousins. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins of the Yamamoto family, as well as many lifelong friends in Oceano, Hawaii and the Los Angeles area.
John was preceded in death by his father, Harold E. Guiton; and father-in-law, Kenneth Yamamoto.
